This place is home to the largest thalassotherapy centre in Europe, which from the outside resembles a giant SodaStream. Treatments at the adjoining spa need to be booked in advance and feature the 75-minute Thalasso Anti-Stress Programme incorporating fangotherapy, pressure shower, and a massage. There’s a rooftop swimming pool and nudist solarium, along with two adult pools and one for children in the hotel gardens. Both tennis courts are astroturf and there are also three flood-lit padel courts. Nightly shows tend to be of the acrobatic, magical, or musical variety.

Rooms
My standard double on the seventh floor had fabulous sea views and an outdoor terrace. Beige walls and grey floor tiles make up the muted colour scheme. The family suites are more colourful with ocean-blue walls and striped bedspreads.

Food & drink
The buffet restaurant on the ground floor featured a dinner that went big on Spanish staples such as albondigas (meatballs), fabada (hearty Asturian bean stew), and papas con chistorra (potatoes and cured sausage). If you stay on an all-inclusive basis, you can accompany your evening meal, and indeed midday one, with draught lager and house wine.
The ninth-floor Gorbea offers adventurous á la carte Basque and international cuisine. The next-door chill-out lounge offers a touch of Canarian cool. For all-inclusive guests, drinks are free from 10.00am to 11.30pm and include house cocktail New Gloria Palace (rum, apricot brandy, orange juice, pineapple juice, and grenadine).
